The biggest story about Halloween in Japan this year has been Shibuya's attempt to cancel it with an insane police presence, another (unenforceable) ban on drinking in the streets for several days (actually in place since 2019), and large amounts of public money spent on advertising and billboards declaring that street parties and people in costumes are not allowed. They even fenced up poor old Hachiko -- what did he do?! -- in an effort to prevent people gathering in the district. It hasn't stopped people going there, of course, but in lesser numbers and with lower degrees of energy. The ...

Halloween is well and truly back. And that means plenty of flesh on display in Shibuya. Since Friday, the Tokyo district has been packed each night with cosplayers massing for the impromptu cosplay street party that has defined Tokyo Halloween for several years. In an effort to control the phenomenon, which has resurged this year almost for the first, full time since the Covid pandemic, Shibuya has temporarily banned drinking on the street. The police presence is significant, of course, after the minor unrest in 2018 that led to a truck being overturned in Center Gai. This means hundreds of ...

Gotta catch them all! Well, there are so many Pokémon that that aspiration is surely impossible. But it seems you can catch the important ones. Satoshi not only caught Pikachu, but was spotted giving Pikachu a good kiss. Namely, a guy dressed as Satoshi (Ash Ketchum in the West) was recently seen kissing a lady friend dressed as Pikachu in a backstreet of Shibuya. The young couple, presumably at the end of a successful date, were surreptitiously filmed in an alleyway exploring each other's faces. The four-second video subsequently uploaded to Twitter on October 24 has gone viral. The ...

We recently reported on the alleged assault on a Japanese porn star on the streets of Shibuya during the Halloween cosplay party. While we don't have any further details on the groping that was witnessed and filmed, we do know now why the porn star was there in the first place -- and why she was so keen to announce to her followers on social media that she was going. It turns out that Kanon Kanade (奏音かのん) was actually promoting an adult video release that she filmed guerrilla-style partly on the streets of Shibuya. Whether or not the groping was a staged part of this, or just an ...

The growing popularity of Halloween in Japan has resulted in massive street cosplay parties, particularly in areas like Shibuya in Tokyo. That have been adverse effects, too, which is almost inevitable when so many thousands of (mostly young) people come together. Last year, in particular, seemed like a turning point when a truck was turned over in Shibuya by drunken revellers. Some used the street parties as a mere excuse to grope women or take panchira underskirt photos. This year's Halloween in Shibuya was crazily crowded but a little more subdued, with tighter police controls back again ...

Halloween in Japan means many things. It means crazy costumes and street parties. It means cars being overturned. It mean girls in bodystockings. It means a porn shoot truck. It means a top porn star in a cute costume. And it also means old men upskirting young girls. Yes, this is one of the less than savory elements of the Halloween street parties in Tokyo and other cities around Japan. One incredulous person caught an elderly photography patently getting panchira shots of girls in Center Gai last weekend during the height of the Halloween revelry. He seems barely aware that others ...

This year's Halloween street party in Shibuya has proved controversial even before October 31st after a near-riot broke out. A car was overturned and five arrests made. As we know, the Halloween costumes worn by young people in Shibuya and other areas of Tokyo often have little if nothing to do with the traditional Halloween theme. It's often just an excuse to wear funny or outrageous costumes before the winter sets in. Tenga costumes have been a common choice in previous years. There's also a lot of flesh on display: demonstrating once again the resilience of the Japanese female to the ...

Halloween in Japan is much more than just trick or treating. It means dressing up skimpy costumes and cosplay outfits, and hanging out in places like Shibuya for hours on October 31st as well as the weekends leading up to Halloween. The popularity of the movement has developed a lot in the past few years, with thousands now descending on Scramble Crossing every year. This makes for a visual feast in terms of costumes, and the best ones often have little to do with a traditional Halloween as we know it in the United States, and more to do with Japanese pop culture, trends, in-jokes, and ...

This year, in addition to crazy numbers of people in cosplay on the streets, Shibuya also hosted trash cans that spoke to you in porn stars' voices when you filled them up with your garbage. And that wasn't the only porn-themed attraction in Shibuya over the Halloween weekend. Regular viewers of Japanese AV will be familiar with the "magic mirror truck" series that features a vehicle installed with a one-way glass wall. It travels around the city, looking out at unsuspecting citizens on the streets while all manner of sexual antics take place inside. Porn industry giant Soft on ...

How to get girls to surround you? Simple. Wear a t-shirt saying you are a virgin and wander around the crazy street party that was Shibuya during the Halloween weekend. That's what this guy did. The sophomore University of Tokyo student, Ryosuke Takano, is a self-professed virgin but he still wanted to join in the fun for the holiday. He carried 120 handwritten cards around with his name, Twitter account and Line number, hoping to attract followers or groupies to his cause (presumably ending his virginity). The gimmick worked a treat: he was soon surrounded by hordes of cute ladies ...
