We fondly remember the days when it was relatively easy to visit happening bars. Sadly, those times when such establishments were widely known and could be frequented in central areas like Shinjuku or Shibuya now feel distant, largely due to a police crackdown that closed many down or scared others off. Further proof that the police won't tolerate businesses that allow members of the public to have sex with each other appeared this month. Media reported on May 9 that police had busted a Shibuya happening bar called Sleeping Beauty. An incredible eleven separate police districts as well ...

When does an orgy become a crime? If it's group sex among consenting adults, there should be no issue, right? That's today's legal conundrum. One man in Japan found himself arrested for hosting an orgy (in Japanese, ranko party). So what was his crime? Strangely enough, it was fraud. He had booked a hotel room in Fukuoka for two people, but then ended up with eleven guests (eight men, three women) in the room in January. He should have paid for eleven guests to stay, but only paid for two, hence his arrest. The man recruited participants in the orgy online. There was the possibility ...

It is common now to see Uber Eats cyclist couriers zipping around Tokyo with their black bags, delivering meals to people whatever the weather. They tend to be young and healthy, the latter quality perhaps coming from the amount of time they spend on their bikes. And some of them are hot. Like this lady, who delivers Uber Eats meals in the ward of Minato in central Tokyo. Yu Maria is 26 and wears skinny leggings, a tight top that reveals her midriff, and no bra while she fulfills her orders. If you look closely, you can see her nipples, as a Japanese TV show highlighted when doing a piece ...

The end-of-year period in Japan is a bit like Christmas in Europe and North America. Everyone has time off work and spends it with their family doing various traditional things like eating certain dishes or watching terrible TV shows. In the prefecture of Kochi, though, some people instead chose to have sex in public parks. At least, this couple did, since they were flagrantly filmed by a passerby and eventually had to be stopped by the party-pooping local police. Photos of the incident, which apparently took place in Tsuitemae Park in the prefectural capital of Kochi, seems to show a ...

The wonderful Mulboyne, a boundless source of so much trivia and fascinating information about Japan, has posted a few images from past streaking incidents in Japan. We wanted to share these with our readers, along with some further commentary. Japan is a culture of pubic bathing, so public nudity is hardly much to write home about. But streaking, where one runs naked through a public place, is different: it is done for attention or as a protest, and is pronounced like a foreign word in Japanese. It was applied first, it seems, in the early 1970s to describe a rash of incidents ...

The Japanese AV industry is under a lot of pressure right now. Just today we heard that top porn star Nozomi Aso has been arrested on drug charges. Then there have been all the reports and criticisms about alleged coercion and exploitation in the industry, which even led to the arrest of porn industry staff and an official industry apology last month. Now the arrests have led to new charges. This time, the president of production company CA, Yoshihide Murayama, is one of 52 people -- 9 actresses 24 male performers, plus crew -- accused of indecent exposure during a shoot a camping ...

If you went out at Halloween in Tokyo you might have seen some very scantily clad ladies. Likewise, a trip to Akihabara often means the chance to see idols performing on the street with a lot on display. Flasher idol Asuka Sawamoto famously got herself arrested in 2008 when she did a series of performances in Akiba where she let hordes of men photograph her underwear. (She went on to a career in porn.) But what about just "risque" fashion. How far is this legal? A fashion website asked a lawyer about how far you go with see-through underwear in Japan. Exposing yourself in ...

Wow, this is big. We have been worried about police crackdowns for a while, especially with the upcoming Olympics likely to become an excuse for exerting state power. Could this be the tip of the iceberg? Police have raided one of Tokyo's top BDSM clubs, KUNKUN. The Ueno club is pretty big (we've been there) and also fairly new (it opened in mid-2012). It is the base of one of Japan's best-known shibari (kinbaku) rope bondage art masters, Hajime Kinoko (Hideto Hiramatsu). Of course, there is a thin line between being bondage club where a show may take place and being a "happening" ...

Police in Nishi-Biwajima in Aichi Prefecture have arrested three people for public indecency. The leader was company employee Hiroki Muramatsu (51) from Saitama, who was shooting two models in the buff. They were Eri Nishiyama (22) from Nakano in Tokyo, and an unnamed 19-year-old minor. Muramatsu had apparently been doing a shoot at a studio in Kita-Nagoya City around noon on Marh 23rd, which including getting both the ladies completely naked. Muramatsu is a veteran -- apparently he does such naked shoots every weekend in Nagoya and Tokyo. He recruits models online. Nishiyama ...

Japanese porn shoots are very professional things. We have personal experience (not of appearing in them, we might add!) and can tell you that the major production companies run very slick operations. They come in and shoot their stuff very efficiently, and leave without any trace. They are meticulous about garbage and know exactly what they are doing, because they are literally making a new movie every day. And then there are the more amateurish efforts. The results still have some value and charm. But the shoot itself won't be as well done. Was this one of those? Police have arrested ...
