Regular readers will remember the cautionary tale of gravure idol Miyu Murashima, who was forced to apologize and put her burgeoning career on ice in mid-2024 after her affair with a married basketball player came to light.
She was effectively sacked by her agency and announced later in 2024 she would no longer do gravure, instead focusing on producing her own content on YouTube and TikTok.
The basketball player with whom she had an affair seemed to suffer no professional consequences.
Over two years on from the scandal, what is Murashima doing?
Now 27 years old, the former idol announced ...
Nanoka makes “miracle” gravure comeback after marriage and parenthood

/ Tadashi Anahori
Nanoka is back.
After a two-year break, the gorgeous gravure idol has returned with a photo shoot for Weekly Playboy, published in the July 13 issue. The magazine is calling it a "miracle comeback."
The busty model is now 37 years old -- she debuted way back in 2011 -- and very much in the sexy jukujo, hot mom years, but indeed she did announce her marriage and first child in December 2024. That seemed like a de facto retirement announcement, since she had already released what was promoted as her final photo book in June that year.
Nonetheless, some of us held out hope and it seems she ...

/ Tadashi Anahori
Gravure idol Asuka Oda has announced the opening of a lounge in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku, central Tokyo, where gravure idols will serve customers.
While we have seen similar kinds of gravure bars in the past (as well as bars with active Japanese porn stars for servers), this may be the first opened by an active gradol and staffed by her peers.
The 36-year-old Oda said, "I am pleased to announce the opening of Gravure Idol Lounge Grow in Kabukicho, Shinjuku."
Opening such a business is a long-cherished plan of hers, she shared. "Owning my own place has been a dream of mine. I am ...

She is now in her thirties and, despite being still one of the most famous gravure idols in Japan, it was inevitable that this day would come: Jun Amaki is to retire this summer.
Yes, it's sadly time to say sayonara to one of the cutest and bustiest of gradols in Japan.
She announced this a few days ago to accompany her appearance in the current issue of Weekly Playboy. There is also a tie-in digital photo book, appropriately called Retirement, now on release. The resulting storm of publicity Amaki's announcement has generated has helped send the book up the Kindle charts.
Amaki was at ...

/ Tadashi Anahori
The gravure idol and actress Rio Teramoto is to make a comeback after five years.
In the intervening time, she has focused on her acting career, including teasing us with an almost-nude scene in the Netflix drama Sanctuary, in which she played a hostess.
Incredibly for someone who seems to have been around so long, she is still only 24 but hasn't released a photo book in six years.
Teramoto's second release comes out on April 1 and was shot in Perth, Australia. "This is my first gravure shoot in five years," she wrote on Instagram to her fans. "I'm grateful to everyone who waited for ...

Fujino officially retired on New Year's Eve with a handwritten note posted to social media. "Given my current condition, I'm in no position to say that I am fine or OK, even if I had to lie," she admitted. "Everything is getting worse, and it feels like anything could happen at any time. I'm fighting a daily battle with my body, which is at its limit."
After a fight against parapharyngeal cancer for several years, she died on January 5, according to an announcement made by her family four days ...

Gravure idol and cosplayer Minami Awa had a somewhat sad end to December. She posted on social media on the evening of December 23 that she was forced to cancel her meet-and-greet event due to a lack of attendance. In a move that some might interpret as highly Japanese, the 29-year-old offered an "unprecedented apology" for the cancelation.
Known for her curvy body and dyed hair, Awa wrote: "Apology. The handshaking event scheduled for today has been canceled due to zero people in line."
She posted a shot of herself sitting alone with a sad expression at the event venue, which had been ...
