A journalist working on a BBC Three documentary about child sexual exploitation was held in police custody.
The 29-year-old Stacey Dooley was held by police in Tokyo for two hours during the making of her documentary, Young Sex For Sale In Japan.
"It [the doc] focuses on the fact they only made it illegal to possess child pornography in 2014," said Dooley. "We set out to try and understand why it took a privileged country, like Japan, so long to come to this conclusion. Also to see if the change in their law had made any real difference on the ground."
Dooley and her team were ...
Bad news if you are into "JK business", the new style of enjo kosai (compensated dating) where you go on "dates" with schoolgirls that end in a sexual encounter. The days of casually walking into a JK business venue and getting an appointment with a teenager are possibly numbered.
These services are often euphemistically called "osanpo" (walks), though they may also be in the form of "massages" or "soine" (snuggling up together in bed), or as conversations in a "cafe" or even sessions where the customer takes photos of the girl schoolgirl in swimwear. ("JK" stands for "joshi-kosei", or ...
We all love nude selfies. Regular readers will know how we have documented the wonders of the ladies in Japan who love to put their bodies out there for all the world to enjoy.
But this may be coming to an end.
The Asahi Shimbun reports that "nude selfies" are being targeted by "online perverts", so the Tokyo government is keen to criminalize them.
Anyone who "requests" a nude selfie may be punished by a new regulation under consideration by Tokyo officials.
In a bid to stop a perceived rise in teenagers sending such lewd self-portraits, the Tokyo metropolitan government ...
Tokyo police arrested the female president and four others for operating an online chat room on FC2 Live.
The operator, OK, had a pay-to-view chat room where women would masturbate or perform other sexual acts on camera for the pleasure of viewers. The charges are, perhaps not surprisingly, public indecency or obscenity.
Based out of a condo in Roppongi, OK was led by Kaori Okada (30), who is alleged to have appeared in the online videos herself. We have made some screen grabs of such a video, though we cannot confirm if this is Okada masturbating in front of a webcam. She has amazing ...
If you think something is too good to be true, you're probably right.
That's our advice, which should have been followed by the thousands of men who thought they had the chance to go on a date with Atsuko Maeda.
A 38-year-old man was arrested earlier this month for operating a deai-kei dating website that claimed to offer dates with the former AKB48 idol.
He had fled the country but foolishly returned in late September.
Maeda is now a mainstream actress and cannot even be "met" at the famous AKB48 handshaking events. But that didn't seemed to occur to the 370,000 people who paid ...
Adult retail giant DMM.com announced on September 7th that it would no longer sell content in which performers are under 18 years of age.
This will apply to "image video" DVDs and so on featuring idols and tarento.
DMM also said that since July 25th it had stopped selling adult content that had not been screened by industry bodies like the euphemistically named Intellectual Property Promotion Association (IPPA). Moreover, it said that it had never sold any pornography involving performers under the age of 18.
DMM also said that the non-adult DVDs featuring performers under the age of ...
The Japan Times recently published a long and sympathetic article about the sex industry in Japan.
It superbly shows how the women who ply their "trade" in the sex industry often do so because of economic hardship.
For the past six years, 47-year-old single mother Kasumi Endo has lived a double life.
On weekdays, she works all day as a temp-staff office worker to raise her teenage daughter. But with wages hardly sufficient to keep the household afloat, Endo (not her real name) takes a surreptitious trip to Tokyo’s downtown Ikebukuro district on weekends to earn extra money.
As ...
The Japanese AV industry is under a lot of pressure right now.
Just today we heard that top porn star Nozomi Aso has been arrested on drug charges.
Then there have been all the reports and criticisms about alleged coercion and exploitation in the industry, which even led to the arrest of porn industry staff and an official industry apology last month.
Now the arrests have led to new charges. This time, the president of production company CA, Yoshihide Murayama, is one of 52 people -- 9 actresses 24 male performers, plus crew -- accused of indecent exposure during a shoot a camping ...

The suspect is 33-year-old Yoshifumi Kurita, a temp from Sagamihara, who was arrested by Kanagawa police on June 18th.
According to police, Kurita is maintaining silence, though there have been five similar cases in the area around where there crime took place.
