New Japanese Netflix drama series The Naked Director charts rise and fall of porn legend Toru Muranishi
We previously introduced the legendary porn impressario Toru Muranishi when a documentary about him came out in Japan — specifically, the last gasp of his major releases when he tried to create one of the most ambitious porn films ever shot.
The pioneer of POV shots and arrested several times over the years, Toru Muranishi is perhaps the most famous adult video director and producer from the 1980s and 1990s. That fame is set to reach new audiences with the release of a new Japanese Netflix drama starring Takayuki Yamada.
The Naked Director charts the rise of Muranishi’s porn production company and his relationship with industry peers, including the top star Kaoru Kuroki, and his development of unsimulated sex on camera.
In 1980s Japan, one determined man turned every crushing setback into opportunity. His name was Toru Muranishi, and he revolutionized his industry.
The eight-episode series also stars the nudity-friendly Ami Tomite and Misato Morita (as Kuroki).
“People have seen my asshole,” as Muranishi declares in the opening moments. “But I’m not embarrassed. To be human is to live as who you really are. In other words, adult videos show humanity itself.”
They, as the drama reveals, also showed women with hairy armpits.
Based on a nonfiction book, Muranishi also gave the series his blessing.
