A new film Namae no nai Onnatachi (名前のない女たち, literally “The Girls With No Names”, though the English title is Love & Loathing & Lulu & Ayano) is about young JAV porn stars in Tokyo, a subject of course close to my heart!

Porno for seniors in Japan’s pink movie theaters

A new trend in Japan’s pink movie theaters is a surge in the popularity of narration from the movie’s stars. You can hear the women saying: “Now it’s going in”, “Now I will move my hips” etc.

Former AKB48 idol becomes porn star

Rina Nakanishi (中西里菜) used to be one of the minor members of idol group sensation AKB48 but has since left the world of idols for far more rewarding work in…porn!

End of sex era as Ueno pink movie theater closes

Famous pink movie theater Ueno Okura Gekijou is to shut its doors in August, bringing to an end fifty-nine years of sex history. A new unrestricted cinema will be built in front of the old building…

Okura first appeared in north-east Tokyo in 1951 and started showing pink movies from 1962. Despite its age it still attracts many old fans to its weekly three-movie schedules, with some 2000 visitors per week.

However, they are more often than not in the poorer areas of town, such as Ueno or in Osaka’s Nishinari district (also home to lots of old-style, very very open brothels).

Of course, part of the appeal of the places was that you could go there and get away from your family. Small Tokyo apartments don’t allow you much space to look at porn in private. Okura’s fans kept it open for this long but times are changing. Now the owners want to improve its whole image and capture new customers.
