Tenga creates traditional gift version of Premium Tenga Original Vacuum Cup for New Year

Known for creating the most stylish and best-designed adult toys in Japan (and the world), Tenga is also one of the most innovative when it comes to marketing.

It loves to make seasonal products and campaigns, and we don’t just mean holding a sale or putting together some themed packaging.

For example, it regularly offers chocolates in Tenga Cups for Valentine’s.

It’s currently offering a special New Year’s Tenga set, inspired by Japanese traditions.

The brand has sold such sets since 2017. This year’s comes in a wooden box with decorative paper, housing a Premium Tenga Original Vacuum Cup wrapped with a mizuhiki cord.

It is marketed with Tenga’s usual panache and visual flair, and demonstrates that a Premium Tenga Cup looks right at home in a traditional Japanese environment of sliding doors, gold leaf, lacquer, and kimono.

Given that such new-year gifts are usually presented to clients or close friends or family, we wonder who the target is. After all, despite Tenga’s best efforts over the years, male masturbation is still sadly not a subject for polite society and we doubt that someone would feel confident enough to give such a Tenga Cup box to a colleague or client.

That said, the paper on the box gives the brand name not in Roman alphabet like usual but in Japanese kanji (meaning “elegance”), which are harder to read and more discreet. You and the recipient could perhaps pretend the box contains a more typical New Year’s gift like food or drink.
