Over the weekend, Comiket 90 was held under the scorching sun. Cue the ravishing display of sweaty and semi-naked bodies of young, nubile cosplayers, plus a whole host of lenses to snap away at these tempting ladies... While there were no reports of insane fishnet stocking sunburn like last year, here are some of the highlights from the event. Due to work on the Tokyo Olympic venues, part of the Odaiba location was shut off so some of the outdoor area where the cosplayers usually gather to pose was shut off. We really hope that the preparations for that boondoggle in 2020 don't ...

The Japanese cosplay world was in shock on June 29th when one of the most up-and-coming cosplayers, Nekomu Otogi, announced her surprise marriage at the age of just 20. Not only that, her new husband is a mangaka. And 31 years her senior! Yes, Kosuke Fujishima is one lucky, lucky guy. Oh, and she's pregnant. Yes, this is the classic dekichatta kekkon, or shotgun wedding. Don't worry, Nekomu, you are in fine company -- everyone from Meisa Kuroki to Eriko Satoh. But seriously, is this even legal? Apparently Fujishima, best known as the creator of Oh My Goddess!, ...

Japan's best-known adult brand, Tenga, has once again inspired some nice cosplay. There's something about the vibrant colors and naughtiness of the Tenga onacup that seems to capture people's imaginatinon, from porn star Mana Sakura to ordinary costumers on the streets during Halloween. This time it's Minami Iida (aka Gohan-chan) who has transformed herself into an "anthropomorphized" Tenga. She posted the results online earlier this month. Note the hairpiece, comprising an onacup and Tenga eggs. She even has mini onacup earrings! For comparison, this is what the ...

Every now and then, Japan's character artists create something truly awesome and original, and which captures the imagination of people around the world. Take Calne Ca by Deino, an idol with a mechanized calcium skeleton (hence the "Ca" in the name). The character -- a favorite of ambitious cosplayers -- is derived from the Vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku. Her name is pronounced Karune Shii-e. According to the Vocaloid Wikia: Her name comes from kara (骸) and ne (音), as well as CA (シーエ), the chemical symbol of calcium. This is due to Calne Ca being a mechanized skeleton ...

Fetish Festival (Feti-Fes) was held on January 31st at a venue in Harajuku and what a serendipitous collection of fetishes it was! We loved the one we attended last year. This January we couldn't go in person but watched from afar via the festival's official social media channels, from where we have pouched these shots. Everything from rope bondage and steampunk to almost-not-there bikini idols, crotch shots, masks, blood and horror, nurses, eyepatches, facesitting, and everything in between. The festival remains one of the most accessible ways to experience the sheer range of ...

It doesn't matter how cold it is. When there's an opportunity for cosplay, the young girls in Shibuya don't miss out. And so Christmas 2015 was a fun one in Tokyo, with plenty of cute ladies skimpily dressed up in red and white costumes on the streets of Japan's capital. Christmas in Japan is defined by the biggest date night of the year on Christmas Eve (just try getting a love hotel room!) and then consuming strawberry cake and fried chicken on December 25th itself. The Christian holiday has also gradually become a festival of dressing up and hanging around the city looking ...

Back in the spring we blogged about the awesome Ryoujoku Stockings. There is a whole subgenre of "shame" porn in Japan, many of which revolve around settings where a woman is held captive as a "public toilet" facility. Tied up, she is treated like a public latrine for a series of men to come along and dump their loads onto and into her body. Koshu benjo -- or "public lavatory" -- is a slang Japanese word used to insult a woman. (Sometimes also called a niku benki, or meat/flesh toilet.) The women's bodies are also "decorated" in writing, especially on their legs, saying they are ...

It seems that the world can't get enough of the alluring world of Manabu Koga's Underwater Knee-High Girls. After first seducing us in 2013, the conceit of having cute girls in slinky swimming costumes and knee-high socks shot underwater has not got old. In fact, as Koga has added gimmicks like props and worked with the likes of "flat-chested" lingerie designer Gomi Hayakawa. The swimsuits in the photo books and exhibitions have even become actual products (in collaboration with sexy swimsuit brand Realise), fans have continued to flock to his vision. Three photo books later, ...

Shibuya was an insane spectacle last night, with tens of thousands of revellers out for Halloween -- many of them wearing all variety of costume. As expected, Halloween in Tokyo has less to do with Hallows' Eve than with cosplay for its own sake. And so you get almost every type of costume imaginable. Many are very sexy -- you can see A LOT of legs and some butts on display -- and others are very funny and satirical. While we had expected to see full Tenga Onacup suits around, our prize for best adult toy-themed costume is the Tenga helmet that these guys were wearing in Center ...
