What is is like to be the father of a porn star?
We once blogged about an interview with the wife of a prominent Japanese male porn performer as well as the brother of two gravure idols.
Now the 32-year-old retired top Japanese porn star Kirara Asuka has released a video on her YouTube channel — it seems that many of the big JAV names are also becoming YouTubers — all about her dad.
The 20-minute video (only in Japanese), which is the first time her 55-year-old father has made such a public appearance, was published on April 28 and has racked up nearly 750,000 views.
It takes a while for him to appear properly (after a brief introduction, there’s quite a build-up section in the middle involving getting ready for a dinner). When he comes back in later for a photo shoot and dinner, he’s all jazzed up in Gucci gear like a 1980s enka singer and seems a bit uneasy.
They do at least do an impromptu interview in the car on the way, asking him about Kirara as a child while she sits meekly next to him, looking nervous about what he might say. There are sadly no big revelations, though he suggests he pays more attention to her work in Tokyo “these days” (presumably, post-retirement). She confesses to have been a daddy’s girl when younger.
The emphasis is very much on her dad but Kirara’s mother also appears, albeit with her face not shown. In her interview, she intriguingly claims not to think Kirara is famous. And apparently, Kirara was quite studious when at school.
Unless we missed it, they don’t seem to ask the really big question: What do/did you think of your daughter’s porn career? Maybe because it’s too late for such concerns now.
