Japanese visual kei band creates anti-stalking male voices video for women living alone

A new video attracting attention in Japan is an “anti-stalker” voice clips collection for women who live at home.

If they are scared about a visitor, the idea is, they can use these audio clips to pretend a man is at home. This will ostensibly scare off a potential intruder or stalker.

Since it was uploaded to YouTube about a week ago, the video has garnered in excess of 1.1 million views. Hopefully most — if not all — of those views were not because the content was actually needed to ward off a stalker.

The video is divided into various male voice audio clips for different scenarios and varying levels of intensity and tone. Some are very basic vocal responses like “No, thank you” and “Goodbye.”

Others are more precise, like “Unwanted solicitor (calm plus ‘If you don’t leave, I’m going to call the police’ version)” and “Unwanted visitor (angry boyfriend who thinks someone is trying to steal his girlfriend version).”

The video was created by the visual kei band Golden Bomber, which might seem strange except that visual kei has a huge female fan base. The audio is spoken by Sho Kiryuin, the singer from the band. (That’s him in the preview picture, too, dressed as a woman.)

Stalking is a problem in Japan, as with many places, and several prominent cases that ended tragically have brought attention to the issue, resulting in stronger laws to protect victims.
