How much did Mitsu Dan earn for her first nude shoot?

The actress and former gravure idol Mitsu Dan was a huge part of our lives in the first half of the 2010s, when she was appearing in lots of roles in erotic movies and doing some very high-profile nude shoots.

Now aged 45 (and still a very classy lady) and married, Dan recently appeared on the YouTube channel ReHacQ and revealed some interesting details about her past career.

On the September 28 episode, she shared how much she actually earned for her first fully nude photo shoot.

It was just ¥330,000 — about a month’s salary at a regular job at the time.

Of course, the actual fee was a bit higher, but other her agency had taken its cut and expenses were taken out, that’s the figure that Dan was left with herself.

What did you think of that relatively low fee, the host asks Dan. “It was good. I could pay my rent,” she answers, matter-of-factly.

“That said, I was actually surprised to find that I was worth as much as ¥330,000. I didn’t feel disappointed that it was low.”

Dan went fully nude very soon after her gravure debut in 2010 (following stints in a funeral parlor and as a Ginza hostess), positioning herself as the heiress to the 1990s hair nude photo book craze.

The nude shoots were also a stepping stone to other things, like lucrative appearance fees at events and roles in erotic movies such as the explicit BDSM-themed Be My Slave (2012) and Sweet Whip (2013). She continued to capitalized on her sex appeal in nude photo books and acting roles throughout the 2010s, though her fame probably peaked around the middle of the decade.

For a while, she was Japan’s most eligible and sexy jukujo as she entered the second half of her thirties, rivaled perhaps only by Manami Hashimoto.
