Former porn star and minor celebrity Anri Sakaguchi arrested for shoplifting
The rather sad travails of former porn star and minor celebrity Anri Sakaguchi continue. The 34-year-old tabloid favorite has now been arrested for shoplifting.
Police nabbed her on the scene after she was caught stealing a single sandwich in Hachioji, West Tokyo, on March 17. She has since been held at Takao Police Station. She has admitted the charge, though police can hold suspects for over 20 days without formally charging or indicting them, and it is likely that she won’t be released for some time, despite the minor nature of her crime (the sandwich apparently cost around ¥300).
A sales clerk noticed the theft in progress and alerted the local police, who arrived from the Takao station to take Sakaguchi into custody.
The latest episode suggests that Sakaguchi is in serious financial difficulty. She has apparently been working as a nail technician and at a bar, but also attempting to launch a new career as a live streamer and even set up an agency for TikTokers. In late 2024, she put her PayPay account details on social media, hoping to receive payments from her followers.
The daughter of an actress and golfer, Sakaguchi was a regular on TV shows in the early 2010s, but things have not gone well for her in the past decade or so.
She launched a brief and unsuccessful porn career in 2016 to pay off her debts. She also did a full-frontal nude shoot.
After her porn career ended, she was twice arrested for extortion and trespassing.
Like other minor celebrities, she has apparently made ends by hostessing, compensated dating, and sex work.
In late 2025, she divorced for the second time. Both marriages were brief and bizarre (one to a transgender host, another to a much younger man).
Her mother died in 2013, after which things started to go wrong for Anri, who has also claimed that she once had an abortion after she was drugged and impregnated.
