Top gravure idol Jun Amaki to retire this summer

She is now in her thirties and, despite being still one of the most famous gravure idols in Japan, it was inevitable that this day would come: Jun Amaki is to retire this summer.

Yes, it’s sadly time to say sayonara to one of the cutest and bustiest of gradols in Japan.

She announced this a few days ago to accompany her appearance in the current issue of Weekly Playboy. There is also a tie-in digital photo book, appropriately called Retirement, now on release. The resulting storm of publicity Amaki’s announcement has generated has helped send the book up the Kindle charts.

Amaki was at pains to emphasize in her social media announcement that this was not an April Fools Day post, even though she first shared the news two days before April 1. This is because Amaki has previous when it comes to such parody posts. Last April 1, she announced her retirement, only to reveal that it was in fact just a joke.

The concrete reasons for the retirement are not available at the time of writing, though she apparently explains more in her Weekly Playboy interview about her thinking behind the decision. No specific date for her gravure retirement has yet been announced.

We initially thought the announcement would be accompanied by another, that she was getting married. Perhaps because this is the season for new beginnings, the arrival of spring has brought with it a flurry of celebrity announcements of marriage, including former AKB48 idol and single mom Mariko Shinoda’s remarriage, the pregnancy and remarriage of Hikari Mitsushima (40) to a younger model, and busty single mom Tenchim’s marriage.

Known for her fun-sized Asian body with I-cup boobs, curvy butt, and slim waist, Amaki is many people’s ideal image of a gravure idol. She released another semi-nude photo book last autumn (probably her most explicit shoot to date because you could actually see nipples) and turns 31 later this year.

Given the large following she enjoys, Amaki may very well continue to release content through her popular YouTube channel and branch out into other parts of the entertainment industry like acting.
