New Japanese porn parodies Masahiro Nakai sexual assault scandal

A new Japanese porn release appears to parody the 2024 Masahiro Nakai scandal, in which the former SMAP member and TV staple was accused of sexually assaulting a female colleague. The woman is generally assumed to be Nagisa Watanabe, though this has never been officially confirmed.

The controversy stemmed not just over the allegation but over whether or not Fuji TV had allowed a years-long system to develop in which female TV presenters were treated like “rewards” to be given to powerful men in the industry. It abruptly ended the career of Nakai, one of the most visible presences on TV screens for years.

The new AV, The Truth About the Female Announcer’s Tax System: The Tragedy of Sexual Abuse in Which a TV Station Announcer Was Preyed on by a Male Celebrity (MKMP-698), stars Erika Ozaki and was released by million on January 10.

It features an attractive TV announcer being taken to a hotel room by an older male colleague, where she is seduced over drinks. This parodies the “suite room meeting” reported in the Nakai scandal. Only of course, in this version, the woman ends up enjoying the situation and having sex with the man. Later in the 114-minute AV, there is “trouble” between the man and announcer, which the news media is shown reporting ominously on.

As described many times on these pages, the Japanese adult video industry maintains its prodigious output partly through parodic releases that ape parts of popular culture (anime, movies, TV shows, games, etc.) and topical events.

Recent examples include of gravure idol Sayaka Okada, Squid Game, and Elden Ring. The industry is also not above a degree of self-parody, as Jun Suehiro’s comeback demonstrated.

It is not afraid of embracing controversial or provocative topics, either, such as the Maho Yamaguchi sexual assault. However, sometimes the reaction is negative and it is judged to be a step too far. An AV about the DJ Soda groping incident, for instance, was withdrawn from release after a backlash.

Will this new Erika Ozaki release end up the same way? After all, the Nakai-Fuji case was one of the biggest scandals in Japanese media history, almost bringing down an entire TV broadcaster, and probably the highest-profile MeToo case in Japan to date. When does parody stop and commercial exploitation in bad taste begin?
