Tenga celebrates 20th anniversary with Koichi Matsumoto exhibition
Koichi Matsumoto is the flamboyant head of Tenga who has steered the Japanese adult brand to unrivaled global success. While the folks behind most adult manufacturers tend to lurk in the shadows, Matsumoto has been the public face of Tenga from the start and taken an active role in promoting its wares, from the Egg and Cup toys that started it all, through to the Flip Hole and more recent offerings.
Matsumoto is now holding an exhibition in Tokyo to mark the 20th anniversary of Tenga. The Koichi Matsumoto Exhibition is held at the Baby the Coffee Brew Club gallery space in Harajuku from June 20 to June 25.
Entry is free and former car mechanic Matsumoto will give a talk about his career on the evening of the first day.
The exhibition traces the development of Tenga across multiple product releases, including early designs and Matsumoto’s personal involvement in the brand.
Baby the Coffee Brew Club is on the third floor of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku (also known as Harakado). Tenga actually opened its own store in the same building last year, fittingly called Tenga Land.
Tenga also released a “premium” masturbation cup earlier this year to mark the anniversary of the brand.
