Teacher suspended for porn appearance wants to return to job
According to reports in FNN and the Yomiuri Shimbun, a male teacher in in his forties in Japan participated in an adult video shoot in 2023 at the request of an operator of a paid-access website whom he had met via social media.
The video was subsequently published on the porn site. He reportedly received no payment for his appearance, explaining that he had done it just “out of curiosity.” The matter came to light this August following a anonymous tip-off to the school where he is employed. The video has since been removed.
Upon investigation, the board of education confirmed that the teacher, employed at a Saga prefectural school in southern Japan, had indeed appeared in the video in July 2023. Both the school and the board of education reviewed the actual footage to confirm the details.
While disciplinary action was considered under regulations prohibiting public servants from holding secondary employment, it was determined that the man’s participation did not constitute secondary employment, as he had appeared solely out of sexual curiosity and received no financial compensation in terms of payment or reimbursement for travel expenses.
In other words, the issue was about having a secondary job or income, not appearing in porn.
The teacher was contrite. “I acted in a way that lacked ethical judgment and damaged the public’s trust. I offer my deepest apologies,” he is reported as saying.
He received a relatively light penalty of just a one-month suspension, and has declared his intention to remain in his teaching position. He has managed to overcome the greatest crisis of his life through sheer determination.
Assuming his coworkers and the parents of his students don’t find out, that is.
During a press conference held on October 22, senior officials (pictured above) from the Saga Prefectural Board of Education offered a deep, formal apology while dressed in dark, funerary clothes.
The board and the school principal will discuss the teacher’s future responsibilities once he returns to his position.
