After affair scandal, ex-gravure idol Miyu Murashima now works as Kyoto hostess
Regular readers will remember the cautionary tale of gravure idol Miyu Murashima, who was forced to apologize and put her burgeoning career on ice in mid-2024 after her affair with a married basketball player came to light.
She was effectively sacked by her agency and announced later in 2024 she would no longer do gravure, instead focusing on producing her own content on YouTube and TikTok.
The basketball player with whom she had an affair seemed to suffer no professional consequences.
Over two years on from the scandal, what is Murashima doing?
Now 27 years old, the former idol announced on August 18 via Instagram that she is working at a hostess club.
She posted, “I have been working at a hostess club in Kyoto called Un Jour Gion for a little while now. My stage name is Yu.” She also shared two photos (one of which is above) and added, “I’m going to give my all in this new challenge. Please come visit.”
It seems that Murashima has returned to the Kansai region (she is from Osaka originally). If you want to spend time drinking with her, take a lot of money and head down to Gion.
Part of a large group of clubs, Un Jour has been open for 12 years and has a “cast” of 50 ladies, waiting to spend time with you as long as your money lasts.
It is actually very common for less famous gravure models, both current and former, to work as hostesses, along with former music idols and porn stars. The money is often much better and more regular, for a start, though the hours after antisocial and the social image of working at a hostess club is less favorable. For the club, employing such former models and idols functions as a great promotional stunt, even if they are just temporary hires, like in the case of Yoko Kumada.
