54-year-old man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting girl after giving her alcohol at karaoke
A 54-year-old Japanese man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after giving her alcohol at a karaoke establishment in Tokyo.
The suspect, Naomichi Moribe, is accused of giving alcohol to the 15-year-old girl, sexually assaulting her, and filming the incident on his smartphone at a karaoke bar in Tokyo this past May.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Moribe allegedly sent messages promising to “help” the junior high school student second grader after she posted about her troubles on social media. He invited her to go to karaoke with him.
Moribe is believed to have committed the assault after encouraging the girl to have a drink, causing her to take alcohol mixed with cough medicine, and waiting for her to fall asleep.
They were presumably at a karaoke box where you can hire small booth-like rooms and dim the lights. Such places are popular with couples on dates, but the ones around central Tokyo, especially Shinjuku, can also become discreet locations for seedier activities.
Moribe, who is unemployed and lives in Yokohama, has reportedly chosen to remain silent during police questioning.
It is not his first brush with the authorities. It seems that Moribe tried to target vulnerable teens in the city. In addition to searching online, such young girls are present among the runaways and delinquents who hang out in Kabukicho (known as Toyoko kids), attracting potential exploiters.
Moribe was previously arrested for allegedly committing an indecent act against a 16-year-old girl at a karaoke place in Shinjuku in February.
More than 60 videos were discovered on the seized smartphone and other devices. Tokyo police are investigating the possibility that other girls have been subjected to similar abuse.
