Tsukasa Aoi announces retirement from porn

The adult video star Tsukasa Aoi has announced her retirement.

One of the biggest names in Japanese porn, Tsukasa Aoi posted on Instagram on July 20 that she would retire on August 17.

The 34-year-old wrote that she would no longer work as Tsukasa Aoi and that her exhibition at Gallery Le Déco from August 5, would be her final work.

The wording of her announcement does leave open the possiblity that Aoi will continue to work in porn or make a comeback later under a different performer name, which often happens when performers switch agencies due to contractual restrictions on using their previous professional moniker.

Aoi has enjoyed a remarkable 15-year JAV career, having made her first appearance in 2010 and notched up an almost countless number of releases during that time. (During the late 2010s, her alleged affair with a top male pop star almost derailed her career but thankfully she recovered.) Aoi made her gravure debut in 2018. She was also a member of the idol group Ebisu Muscats from 2015 for around three years.

In addition to various great adult toys, she has also released several photo books. On August 20, she will release Living, her final book — and her first in four years — that is a tie-in with the Gallery Le Déco exhibition. The photographer is industry veteran Koki Nishida. Given her nominal retirement from August 17, it means she won’t do any public promo for the book, or only prior to its actual release, which is far from ideal for publishers Tokuma Shoten, but the retirement announcement has already generated a great deal of news and buzz.

Aoi will also release a special edition of her bestselling 2021 photo book she did with Nishida, plus another very limited edition (just 108 copies) of the 2021 book with a serial number that is available from the exhibition gallery for a whopping ¥108,000!
