Tokushima politician arrested for filming sex worker in Tokyo
On December 5, Tokushima Prefectural Assembly approved the resignation of assemblymember Hiroshi Furukawa, who was arrested at a Tokyo hotel on suspicion of secretly filming a woman working at a delivery health (outcall) adult entertainment establishment.
He is a representative of the prefectural headquarters for Komeito, known as the “clean government” party and affiliated with the Buddhist religious movement Soka Gakkai.
He was arrested on the night of November 28 at a hotel in Akasaka, Tokyo, on suspicion of violating the Act on Punishment of Sexual Photography, for secretly filming the nude body of a call girl with his phone. He was subsequently released on December 1.
Media reports do not specify if he was charged, so presumably he was not. It was not apparent why Furukawa in Tokyo, but perhaps on a trip related to party business, since the Komeito is based in central Tokyo. It is notable that he wasn’t using a cheap love hotel in Kabukicho to have some fun.
The 64-year-old Furukawa faced immediate repercussions from the Komeito, which expelled him on December 1. He had held the position of representative of the prefectural headquarters since 2022.
According to the prefectural assembly secretariat, Furukawa’s resignation request was submitted on the night of December 4 by fellow party member Kazuya Kajiwara on his behalf.
In response, a vote was held at the beginning of the prefectural assembly plenary session on December 5, which unanimously approved his resignation. Furukawa was serving his third term as a member of the assembly.
The Komeito Prefectural Headquarters plans to hold an extraordinary convention on December 7 to elect a successor leader.
