The 2018 Japanese movie Still Life of Memories didn't make much of a splash when it was first released and we are finally catching up with it now. The somewhat peculiar plot is about a love triangle that emerges between a photographer, played by Masanobu Ando, and his younger girlfriend (Rima Matsuda, b. 1994) and a jukujo museum curator (Natsuko Haru, b. 1983), who asks the photographer to take pictures of her most intimate body parts. Yes, this is one of those little films that looks certain to cement the reputation that Japanese have internationally for perversion -- and Japanese women, ...

Old strip clubs were already on a downward, possibly terminal spiral even before corona hit. The pandemic then wiped out the intimacy-based business model for all kinds of strip shows, not to mention hostess and host clubs and even fuzoku sex services. But perhaps especially the vintage burlesque and strip clubs were more precarious than others, being frequented by older clientele and located often in small premises (and in regional areas). We already reported in one long-running strip club in Ehime's struggle to stay afloat during the crisis. There are relatively few such old clubs left in ...

Long-running rural strip club in Japan turns to crowdfunding to stay in business during coronavirus crisis We have been chronicling how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting the adult industry in Japan, from shutting down hostess clubs to inspiring sex workers. Like hostess clubs and the like, strip clubs were also quick to shut their doors after the state of emergency was announced. Having first started in the postwar years, the striptease industry in Japan is dying anyway, so this may well be one of the final nails in its coffin. We spotted an interesting article about one example of a ...

We spotted a nice article about Riri Koda over on Nippon.com. Koda is a former adult video performer from the 1990s, who then switched to pinku eiga (pink film, or softcore porn) in 2005. Since 2015, she has performed as an exotic dancer at the few remaining strip clubs in Japan -- there are now just 20 in the country, down from some 300 in the mid-1970s heyday. But interest in the clubs is growing again, including from increasing numbers of female patrons on the circuit. "Each club has its own allure," Koda says. "Some are small, but may have better lighting. I try to take advantage of ...

Japan's first strip show opened in January 1947 and we found some fantastic vintage advertising for it. Seventy years ago, the pioneering strip club event took place in Shinjuku at the Teitoza theater and was rather tame, not surprising given the attitude toward women at the time. It was a "gakubuchi show", where woman would strike poses of famous nudes in art history, such as Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" that features on the advertising. This is similar to other tableau vivant or poses plastiques early strip shows in other cities, perhaps especially London. They kept their bras on for ...

Imagine you are out for a night of fun at a Tokyo strip club. Your eyes are naturally scanning the unbelievably hot girls on the stage. Then you catch sight of two ladies in the audience who look familiar. Hey, aren't they famous models? When a friend or companion assures you they are, you can then hardly believe your eyes when the following happens. She climbs onto a stage and start to do a pole dance. That's what happened one night an established strip club, where the models Kiko Mizuhara (22) and Eimi Kuroda (25) were in the audience. But things took a turn for the unexpected when ...

A long-established strip club in Shinjuku's Kabukicho has been raided by police for letting Japanese porn stars perform and expose their vaginas. Police have arrested ten for public indecency, including the manager of the Kabukicho T S Music club and several strippers aged 24-39 years old. The club had been allowing patrons to see the JAV girls' private parts after a show had ended, even lending them cameras so they could take photographs. Kabukicho T S Music Club opened in 1985, making it a veteran by Tokyo standards. It makes much of its 250 million yen ($2.8 million) turnover from ...
