Fake AKB48 idol Aimi Eguchi is real

After generating uproar and surprise when they faked a new CGI member for an ice cream commercial, AKB48 have trumped us again by introducing a “real” Aimi Eguchi.

In front of 90 thousand fans during a major concert, “Eguchi” joined the regular gals on stage for an encore!

It later emerged that we had been fooled again by those dastardly ladies! The performer was in fact 15-year old Yukari Sasaki, who had been the voice behind the Glico Aimi Eguchi commercial, and was wearing special make-up to make her appear like the idol.

That’s a tough thing to attempt since Aimi is famously formed of all the cutest elements from the other members. Yukari is currently a “trainee” at AKB48 and thus a fledging compared to veterans like Atsuko Maeda, Yuko Oshima, Mariko Shinohara et al.

Tomomi Itano’s Sexy New Single

She might have been losing some ground with the public of late if those Senbatsu Election results are anything to go by, but you’d be a fool to count the achingly cute Tomomi Itano out just yet, especially when she’s capable of producing material as pleasing to the eyes and ears as her new single ‘Fui ni’, released this week.

The song, available in Japanese retail outlets from the 13th, is the second physical single release from the 8th-placed AKB48 starlet, following last year’s quite well-received ‘Dear J’. Cleverly (or should that be cynically?) coupling a pounding, dancefloor-infecting chorus with reflective balladic verses, it’s sure to appeal to AKB’s followers and teeny-boppers across Japan and the globe alike. The other key demographic, comprising those of us who prefer AKB members to be seen rather than heard, will undoubtely be equally pleased by the classy-but-sexy music video, which showcases the lovely Tomomi in a variety of appealing outfits. AKB48 Senbatsu Election Results In

It might seem more than a tad cruel to publicly name and shame the least popular members of your group while vaulting others onto a pedestal to flaunt at the head of your column (at least until the next election rolls around). Then again, with 48 members to keep track of, the marketing team over at AKB headquarters are probably grateful for any help at all in that department – hate to put a dud on the next single cover, after all. Thus, we have the results of the 3rd Senbatsu Election to mull over.

The divine Atsuko Maeda has, somewhat predictably, nabbed the top spot in this year’s rankings, knocking former reigning Queen Yuko Oshima into a not-unrespectable 2nd position. Undoubtedly buoyed by greater exposure due to her TV and film appearances, both past and upcoming, comely young Ms. Maeda’s star continues to rise. Her starring role in the recently-released PV for AKB’s 21st single ‘Everyday, Kachusha’ reflects this – we’re not likely to see her fade into the background anytime soon, but that’s hardly a cause for complaint.

Elsewhere, the perpetually cute-as-a-button Tomomi Itano slipped a full four places, from last year’s 4th to 8th position, a little surprising given the launch of her solo career this year has provided her no shortage of publicity (or are peeved AKB loyalists punishing her for the slight?). Though gracious when interviewed about the drop, apparently unperturbed, she might do well to take steps to boost her image before the next election arrives. It would be a pity for that darling face to disappear into the featureless mass of background flesh that is, well, everybody else in AKB48.

SDN48 Performance Age Restriction Lifted

Underage fans of overlarge idol groups rejoice – the long-standing ban on under-18s attending SDN48’s theatre performances has been lifted at last, granting you access to the AKB girls’ older, edgier counterparts in (almost) all their raunchy glory.

SDN, the brainchild of AKB48 producer Yasushi Akimoto, was conceived as an “adult idol” group, differentiated from AKB through sexier attire and their focus as a “Saturday Night”-style act (hence the name) aimed at a more mature audience. Having made their major label debut on Universal Music in November of last year with the single ‘Gagaga’, the group have enjoyed widespread popularity from Day One, with both that first single and its follow-up performing well and their stage show Yuuwaku no Garter consistently selling-out, something that can only continue in the wake of this newest development. While these shows were previously limited to over 18s, from June 16th shows before 7PM will be available to fans below that age. The earlier shows will now feature somewhat toned-down content, with choreography altered and some songs having their lyrics censored.

With tickets to the early shows being offered at a price of 2000 yen, instead of the usual 3000, SDN48 are sure to celebrate as fruitful an end to their first year as full-fledged stars of the idol scene as its beginning, with fans old and new flocking to the theatre. Naturally, though, if you’re over 18 there’s no choice to be made in the matter – I recommend the late showings every time. These saucy ladies could teach those whippersnappers in AKB a thing or three about how to sex up a performance.

Maeda Atsuko to Star in Crossdressing Drama

AKB48’s ever-lovely Atsuko Maeda is set to make a welcome return to our screens this July, playing the crossdressing lead character in a brand-new adaptation of Nakajo Hisaya’s popular manga series Hanazakari no Kimitachi e.

Originally adapted as a TV series back in 2007, “Hana Kimi” is the story of Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese high-schooler living in the USA, who, having fallen in love with troubled young sports’ star Izumi Sano after seeing him on TV, moves to Japan and enrolls in his boys-only high school in order to get close to him. Fuji TV has announced that this will be a brand-new retelling of the story, distinct from the 2007 version, and major plot details are being kept under wraps for now. However, what we DO know is that AKB48 will not only be providing the show with its star, but its theme song too. The new tune will be released in August (possibly as the group’s 22nd official single) with the centre member and other participants to be decided in AKB48′s Senbatsu election, beginning June 9th.

The luscious Ms. Maeda is no stranger to working in front of a camera – in 2007 she scored her first movie role in Ashita no Watashi no Tsukurikata and she has previously appeared in several TV dramas, including Majisuka Gakuen and Q-10. This June she will also feature alongside fellow AKB48 member Minami Minegishi in the high school baseball team movie Moshidora.

Cropped hair and a boy’s school uniform might be a somewhat different look than the one that made us fall head-over-heels for Ms. Maeda in the first place, but no doubt the end result will see her looking as foxy as ever. Fingers crossed this’ll be but one of many screen performances to come from the 19-year-old starlet. And if the TV gig doesn’t work out, hey, there’s always AVs. Just saying.

AKB48 Star Gets Wish of Big Boobies in her Face

Appearing to promote the new AKB48 off shoot “Not Yet”, Yuko Oshima sat down with the super plastic Kano Sisters. AKB48 Unpopular Members leave and open up spots for new Unpopular Members

Creator and marketing mad scientist behind AKB48, Akimoto Yasushi, was quoted as saying, “The least popular members are holding us back and we need to get rid of them.” due to the less than stellar turn out for Oku Manami’s graduation announcement event.

Of course you know Maeda Atsuko, Itano Tomomi and Oshima Yuko. He’s not talking about them. He’s talking about the huge chorus of unknowns behind them who do little more than create a cheerleader effect that gets so many otaku hearts fluttering. Upon hearing this news, quite a few of the “unpopular members” as they are referred to, said they would rather quit than be cut, and many have moved themselves straight up the list and next to “graduate”.

Akimoto, the man and not the hot captain of Team K Akimoto Sayaka, used the concept of “meeting real idols daily” when he started AKB48. With that in mind, the AKB theater was opened in Akihabara and AKB shows can been seen daily there. As one could imagine, with a daily show the heavy hitters of AKB’s supple line up won’t be in attendance, so it takes these less popular members to keep the day to day business afloat.

The other problem being if the “unpopulars” all decide to leave at once, that leaves no room for the headliners to move on and graduate as they move on to other projects. In order to try and counter this kind of problem, at the most recent AKB48 new member auditions more trainees were accepted than usual and seem to be rushing through their “initiation” of sorts. Once they are full fledged members, the next in line to graduate can start to leave.

Aside from a few very dedicated fans, does a large changing of the guard have that much affect on the rest of us? Sorry, but no. We can still watch the “Heavy Rotation” video with the girls in their lingerie and the sound turned down as we try to guess who the next Riko Yamaguchi is. Sorry girls, I hardly knew you…because you were basically backdrop.

Itano Tomomi: AKB48 first solo artist

As Itano Tomomi, of AKB48 fame, embarks on her solo career, she took some time to promote her new single with a live performance.

After performing a few songs, Tomomi took a break to reveal a special prize. Seeing as the event took place just before Valentine’s day, she would give one lucky fan a batch of her very own hand made chocolates. Let’s back up just a second. In Japan, couples and lovers don’t exchange gifts on Valentine’s Day. Ladies give the man of their choice some sweets, usually chocolate. Guys reciprocate with sweets of their own, but not until White Day (March 14th).

Seeing as Tomomi’s hand made chocolates were a very big deal, the crowd erupted and every guy in the place wanted them probably almost as much as they wanted to get in her pants. There was a quiz and a few other games to determine the winner. I personally would just use the chocolates as a bridge into her pants, but that’s just me.

Later, Itano did an interview where she went on to tell everyone that she was very nervous seeing as the rest of the group wasn’t there. Then close friend and well known tranny Haruna Ai came up on stage, gave her some flowers and told a story about how good “Tomochin” smells after she gets out of the shower. Yes, these are the type of things that occur at single release parties in Japan.

She then went on to sing a song with the bubbly transsexual and closed out the show with her single (again). The moral of the story is…ah who am I kidding, she’s hot, and that’s what counts.

Morning Musume All-Stars Comeback to Battle Younger Hotter AKB48

Nostalgia is a powerful tool and Yahoo reports that super popular idol group Morning Musume is calling back all of our favorite graduates to form a Dream Team to battle the young whipper snappers from groups like AKB48.

Dream Morning Musume’s roster includes Nakazawa Yuko, Iida Kaori, Abe Natsumi, Yasuda Kei, Yaguchi Mari, Ishikawa Rika, Yoshizawa Hitomi, Ogawa Makoto, Fujimoto Miki and Kusumi Koharu. Tsuji Nozomi, another former member, was slated to join but after the birth of her second child she’s taking some child care leave. While the currently active Morning Musume has an average age of 17.5, the newly formed Dream Morning Musume, who is planning on releasing 2 new songs and going on tour in April, has an average age of 27.

Although still quite young by western standards, some of these ladies are quite scared to get back on stage. The original members started their careers 13 years ago and aren’t sure how the audience will react. In my opinion, I think these ladies will bring out some of the fully legal desires we have, unlike the desires we’ve been having about some of the AKB girls, and they may be able to make this work. So long as some of them go into porn afterward. Yes, that is what I’m hoping for.
