Sony’s “creepy” Project Morpheus Summer Lesson demo at Tokyo Game Show canceled!

After its ridiculously creepy Summer Lesson demo for Project Morpheus met an avalanche of criticism both domestically and overseas, Sony has pulled the plug on the demo exhibit that was set to debut at Tokyo Game Show later this month.

The cancellation was announced today (September 12th), over a week after the Playstation 4 Project Morpheus HMD demo went public, meeting an instant tidal wave of disbelief and disgust.

Summer Lesson was supposed to be the calling card for Sony’s new HMD system. Announced on September 1st, it quickly raised eyebrows when it emerged the demo was about being inside an underage schoolgirl’s bedroom and watching her (very closely) as she went about her business. Yes, the future of gaming is apparently voyeuristic. And we wonder why Sony’s share price is so low.

People just couldn’t understand why Sony has given the go-ahead to such an overtly sexual design.

Sure, we LOVE sleaze and we love the erotic. But it’s a subculture when it comes to gaming.

Why was Sony choosing to demo its system at the biggest gaming event of the year in such an alienating, non-mainstream style.

Sony said it had received so many inquires about Summer Lesson, it did not feel that it would be able to cope with the anticipated demand from the media and visitors.

Well, that’s the official reason for the cancellation.

More like it was trying to backtrack and pull out of the mess it had made.

“We are considering a site for experiencing the demo at a later date,” Sony said. Yeah, how about Akihabara — or even Kabukicho?
