Evangelion statue is sadly not nude Ayanami Rei

You might have heard about the huge Evangelion statue to land at Fuji Q High Land in July.

It will stand 9 meters high and 16 meters wide. Construction costs are said to be 1.5 billion yen ($16.2 million)! It’s gonna have to attract a lot of anime fans to make up those overheads.

Unfortunately, though, the Fuji Q is for the Unit 01 (初機号), not the lovely Ayanami Rei. What a better statue that would have made!

There has also recently been an Evangelion-themed Lawson’s in Hakone that had to be canceled, so immense was the crush from anxious otaku fans to get inside! Maybe Fuji Q will make its money back in the end!

What’s all the fuss about Evangelion? Well, a lot of it is stemming from the very sexy Ayanami Rei. The new Evangelion DVD might be relegated in the adult section due to a particularly risque scene involving Ayanami. It isn’t released till later this month, so if you’re a fan, you’ll just have to wait a bit longer, wherever it will be finally be located in Tsutaya.

Taro says that he would only go to Fuji Q if they made a statue of busty idol Yuri Morishita (森下悠里) dressed up as Ayanami in a sailor school girl uniform! I can see why!
